As I set up this new website I am sitting here in Springfield IL (actually New Berlin). Nanci and I are here to celebrate my dad's 85th Birthday! Sy Haber was born in the Bronx on April 17, 1930.
He and my mom (the late Norma Haber) were married for 54 years. My dad was an electrician and retired from the Coast Guard.
He still loves to fix things. The picture you see is him working in his shop and I'm so glad he keeps busy and loves doing things for others.
His wife Judie is a delightful addition to the family.
My dad took me fishing, camping, and to work. I remember carrying supplies to and from his truck to the house he was wiring on Long Island. My job was to put the outlet plates on as he was finishing up a job.
My dad was my Sunday School teacher and Christian Service Brigade leader. So, he along with my mother were an important part of my spiritual formation.
Dad, thanks for all you've done. I know, if he were writing this, he would say, "I wasn't perfect." We know that. Who is? (God is!) Dad, just remember that it's all about God's grace and mercy. We walk with him not on the basis of our works or performance, but on the basis of his love and kindness.
