Mother Teresa said, “Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at his disposition, and listening to his voice in the depth of our hearts.”
What do you think of when you hear the word prayer? "Now I lay me down to sleep. God is great God is good and we thank you for this food."
I suppose those are prayers, but God really desires to have a conversation with us. Like Mother Theresa said we need to listen for his voice. We need to be still and know that he is God as the psalmist wrote.
But we also need to talk with God. He loves to hear the sound of our voices. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus said,
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened."
Yes, God wants us to keep on asking, keep on seeking, and keep on knocking. He wants to give good gifts to his children. I remember when my children were little. When they received a gift from us, it gave us great joy to see them delight in that gift.
God wants us to come to him in prayer. We don’t need fancy words. We just need to talk with him and share our hearts with him.
The apostle Paul wrote these words to the Philippians:
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
Why not take sometime today and listen for God’s voice and share your concerns with him?
